Aloes

Winter is getting closer and the garden is evolving at its own pace. I originally tried to divide the limited space in 3 different areas. The South-West corner was originally conceived as California natives only, the mid-area has been dedicated to the South Africans, while the Eastern side has been taken by Australian refugees and other scattered specimens from around the world! They all seem to cooperate quite peacefully.
They like to draw attention in turns and we are now approaching that time of the year I like to call "Aloe Madness"! That's right, we will have more than 25 Aloes showing off bright red stalks from December to March. They are impressive! Aloes arborescens, traskii, petricola, ferox, vera and many others are getting ready for the party. You can only imagine what the hummingbirds will do. If this was a Disney movie I would probably watch a bunch of Aloes celebrating the blooming season with a flamboyant "tip tap number", dancing around and closing it with jazz hands: "IT'S SHOW TIME!"
