Stormy Weather

Beacon's.

A brief storm brought rain and 20 mph winds along the California coast. The ocean was a mess and I guess it will take at least 24 hours for things to calm down. Today was sunny again and I picked up Ari in Oceanside. We'll spend a couple of days together. We decided to celebrate his arrival in San Diego getting wet at Beacon's in Leucadia. We knew it was not going to be easy, especially trying to get out to the line up in solid over-head storm surf!!! We made it out after a strenuous paddle and several duck-dives. Green-brownish peaks looked mean and angry, breaking randomly around us. We decided to compete trying to catch the most intimidating waves we could paddle into...it became kind of fun and Ari managed to drop into some heaving liquid caves on his purple 7'2" Hayward single fin...a cosmic flash from the past, to say the least!!! He won the challenge, especially for the kind of equipment he managed to ride in those conditions!
