Native Lavatera

Lavatera assurgentifolia

Lavatera is a large evergreen bush normally 6' tall, but it can get to 10' in coastal clay. The flowers are white with red stripes or red with white stipes 2"-3" across. It's similar to Abutilon. It will take salt spray and all the coastal problems. It is native to the Channel Islands of California. The plants in the ground show no damage at 20 degrees. It seems to be very drought tolerant and it doesn't care about the soil type as long as it drains well.
