Visions of Santosha

"Somewhere...
In the midst of this ancient sea,
surrounded by the intense energy and sparkling beauty of her ocean waves,
lies the Forgotten Island of Santosha..."

Vol. 15, No. 1, 1974
This is one of my all time favorite covers from the mid-70's.
"Santosha isn't really a particular place, it's a word that has a meaning..it's a state of mind, actually, a state of being, living..." These are the opening lines of the classic article by Larry Yates featured in Surfer Magazine Vol.15 (1974) describing his personal surfing experience through some remote areas of the Indian Ocean.
Two photographers, Spider and Weaver were recruited. Also, Terese Yates and Barbara Haynes contributed with excellent photography. Joey Cabell joined Larry Yates during the trip.

That issue started me dreaming
by July of 74 I was at uluwatu bali.

My only regret is that I didn't spend enough time studying the culture before going.

The Balinese are magical!
